Silo Season 2 Cast: Who Survived, Who Died & Who Are The New Characters Going Into Season 3
The Silo season 2 cast remains mostly intact for the upcoming third season of the sci-fi apocalyptic series, except for two major deaths. At the same time, with the two deaths come at least two major character entrances that were teased in the final moments of the season 2 finale. Based on the novel trilogy by Hugh Howey, Silo takes place after a world disaster where the outside world is uninhabitable, and the survivors live in multi-story silos created and controlled by what remains of the U.S. government.
Taking place 350 years after the inciting event, a woman named Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) questions what the survivors have been told their entire lives, as many believe their leaders have been lying about the survival chances outside the silos. In the second season, Juliette leaves the silo and finds a second silo, while the people in her original home have started a rebellion. It all comes to a head when Juliette learns the truth and returns, only to end up in a major cliffhanger ending that changes everything.

Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson)
Survived
When the first season of SIlo ended, the main character was separated from the rest of the cast and remained apart from them for the entire second season. Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson) left her silo and then made her way across the barren land. While a rebellion was rising in her old silo (Silo 18), Juliette found a second silo (Silo 17) and it was here that she found a horrifying situation. She met a man there named Solo (Steve Zahn) and realized that everyone in his silo had been killed by a Safeguard.

What Happens To Juliette In Silo's Season 2 Finale
Juliette spends Silo season 2 away from the only home she has ever known. Does the character finally return to Silo 18 in the season 2 finale?
Juliette spent a lot of time in Silo 17 with Solo/Jimmy, and she learned about the dangers coming from a more powerful form of governing body — one that could kill everyone in her silo with the push of a button. As a result, Juliette raced out to return to her silo to warn everyone and figure out how to shut off the Safeguard. That is when she encountered Bernard at the entrance of Silo 18. He is there with a gun and, while Juliette thinks he wants to stop her, she realizes Bernard wants to end his own life.
That is when the cliffhanger hits. Juliette learned how to stop the Safeguard process from happening, which gave Bernard a small moment of hope. That ended when the small room they were in burst into flames because of the sterilization process. That ended their story in season 2, but news has already come that Juliette survives thanks to her wearing firefighter gear instead of a containment suit. Juliette will also be around for the rest of the series, according to Ferguson (via TV Line):
“I’ve loved every minute of bringing Juliette to the screen and am immensely proud of what we’ve all created with Silo since the first episode. I cannot wait to dive into these final two thought-provoking seasons that will beautifully conclude this dystopian tale.”
Bernard (Tim Robbins)
Died
While Juliette survived for the third season of the Silo cast, Bernard was not so lucky. Throughout the entirety of season 2, Bernard saw his grip on power weakening, and he lost hope. He watched as the people in his silo lost confidence in his leadership and rebelled. He knows, more than anyone else, that the outside air really is toxic, yet he watches his people fight to get out to prove that it is safe. By the end of the second season, Bernard just wants to end it all.
When Juliette returns to the silo, she finds Bernard on his way out with a gun in hand. The gun is a fail-safe for him, so he can end things quickly if the pain of the toxins becomes too much. Bernard chooses to die by suicide so he can "feel free" for the first time in his life. However, he finds some hope when Juliette tells him she knows how to turn off the Safeguard, but then it is too late. The flames arise and engulf Juliette and Bernard. Silo showrunner Graham Yost admits that Bernard died:
I will say that in that final confrontation between them, every word is important. There are certain key words that you’ll see come back big in season 3. I will also say to those who have read the books, Bernard dies at the end of the book, he’s gone. So I would just say that. No one is safe in this show, as we showed in season 1.
Bernard's death is simple. Juliette was wearing firefighter gear, but Bernard was only in a containment suit, which is not fireproof — at least not to the level of the flames in that room.
Sims (Common)
Survived
Robert Sims is a character who was very important in the books, but has a much lesser role in the Silo cast. In the second season, Robert was preparing to continue to rise the leadership ranks in the silo. With Bernard and Lukas realizing that the people they answer to have no care or concern about the silo or the people there — and they could use the Safeguard to kill everyone there without a moment's notice — the silo needs a new leader. That won't be Robert Sims.

Silo Season 2: Why The Algorithm Only Wants Camille
The Algorithm surprisingly asks Camille to stay in the vault in Silo season 2's ending, raising many questions about what it might want from her.
When Robert went to the vault with his wife Camille and his son, the Archive told him and his son to leave, and clarified that Camille was who they want to possibly lead the silo with Bernard out of the picture. The Archive doesn't care about Robert and knows that he likely doesn't have what it takes to lead the people and stop any rebellion, especially the one currently underway. Sims is best at following orders, and it sounds like his wife will be the one he answers to in season 3.
Camille (Alexandria Riley)
Survived
In a shocking move that takes the story away from Hugh Howey's books in a way, Robert's wife Camille is who the Algorithm wants to accept rather than her husband, despite his undying loyalty to the silo. What is different here is that Camille doesn't even exist in the books. With Juliette away, the show decided to go deeper into Robert's life, and that resulted in the series introducing his wife. Graham Yost revealed that with Alexandria Riley taking on the role, it was easy to see her getting more screen time (via Time):
"“Writer and director Aric Avellino and I were in a jam on Episode 9 of Season 1... I think you owe the audience some new stuff. You can't be just a slavish or a direct translation from page to screen... Then we got Alexandria Riley, and it was like “Oh my god, she’s good, let’s write for her. That presence detected something in her, a certain quality that would make her a great person to be—and the best person available—head of IT."
In Silo season 2, Robert Sims takes his wife Camille and son Anthony to the vault. However, the Archive told Sims and his son to leave and only wanted to keep Camille there, and it sounds like the Algorithm has big plans for Camille in the upcoming seasons and not Robert. There is a strong chance that the Archive could be setting up Camille to take over as the new leader, replacing Bernard, which could really change the story from here on concerning the books.
Martha (Harriet Walter)
Survived
Martha Walker was put into a tough spot in Silo season 2. Early in the season, Bernard blackmails Martha to become a spy for him on the Mechanical level. Bernard knew there was the chance of an uprising, and he needed eyes and ears on all levels. She agrees to help, against her better judgment, to hopefully save her ex-wife, Carla (Clarke Perkins). Bernard puts a camera in her workshop and orders her to stay there so he can hear all the plans set in motion.

How Walker Completely Fooled Bernard In Silo Season 2
Bernard Holland believes he has the upper hand in Silo season 2, only to realize that Martha Walker has completely made a fool of him.
This leads Bernard to realize that the plan is to blow up the Silo 18 generator. However, Martha was in control the entire time and had staged all these conversations to throw off Bernard. She used hand signals to communicate, and their words were all to misdirect Bernard. The plan was to get Bernard to lead the raiders to the lower levels and then trap them there by blowing up the bomb on the stairwell. Martha defeated Bernard and helped lead to his downfall.
Paul (Chinaza Uche)
Survived
Sheriff Paul Billings has been a major player in the Silo cast since the first season and things got out of control in season 2 when the uprising began. When Juliette survived being sent outside to clean, it started the rebellion, and this put both Paul and Sims into tough spots of trying to hold things together while Bernard was busy with his ulterior motives. Things really got out of control when Sheriff Billings joined the side of the SIlo 18 rebels in season 2.
Paul sought help from Sims, knowing that Camille had helped the rebels before, and he wanted to let people know the truth about the outside. He handed Sims a page from a forbidden book that shows greenery somewhere outside their walls, knowing it could finally swing their allegiance. Billings survived season 2, and he appears to have an invested interest in saving the rest of the silo inhabitants as the final two seasons play out.
Lukas (Avi Nash)
Survived
Lukas was another character who had his story drastically changed in the Apple TV+ series. In the books, he was a shadow for Bernard and a right-hand man, but in the series, Bernard had to punish Lukas terribly for his actions working with Juliette. Lukas is one of the more intellectually gifted residents of the silo, and ended up sentenced to the mines. In the books, he communicates with Juliette while he is on Silo 17, but that didn't happen in the series. Graham Yost explains his changes for Lukas:
"We really didn’t want any contact between the silos, because we didn’t want anyone in Silo 18 knowing [Juliette] was still alive. We wanted her coming over the hill at the end of the finale to be like,
'That ends the rebellion!' and changes everything. That is the real paradigm shift."
This means that the relationship between Lukas and Juliette from the books didn't play out the same in the series. However, it also means that Juliette and Lukas have to rely on different people for their own survival when she returns to Silo 18, and his survival will possibly allow them to reconnect later in the last two seasons.
Dr. Pete Nichols (Iain Glen)
Died
Dr. Pete Nichols was one of the most important rebels during the uprising. Mechanical planned out their bombing and tricked Bernard into thinking they were doing one thing, just so they could lead the raiders into their trap. As Juliette's father, he was a very important character, both story-wise and emotionally for the characters, and that made him the perfect person to use in a sacrificial moment. That is exactly what happened in the second season.
Dr. Nichols detonates the bomb on the stairs, which traps most of the raiders that Bernard sent in the Down Deep. By detonating the bomb, Dr. Nichols also sacrificed his own life to help the rebels. This means that the only people left to stop the rebels were the raiders who remained behind at the jail, and they were hopelessly outnumbered. His death will have an immediate impact on Juliette when she gets back inside and realizes he is gone.
Jimmy (Steve Zahn)
Survived
The one main new character introduced in Silo season 2 was Steve Zahn's Solo. He was who Juliette met in SIlo 17, and he helped her learn so much more about their situation than she did before. For much of the season, he was a mystery, but it turned out that Solo was Jimmy Conroy and he was only a teenager when the rebellion started in his silo. His father was Russel Controy, who was the Head of IT and who the sheriff killed before Jimmy's eyes. Even when this happened, Jimmy refused to open the vault he was tasked to protect.

Solo's Real Identity In Silo & Connection To Russell Explained
After revealing only bits & pieces about his past, Silo finally reveals the truth about Solo's identity & backstory in season 2's penultimate episode.
Juliette finally convinces Jimmy that the rebellion in his silo has ended, and it was okay to come out of the vault. Jimmy was childlike and innocent, and when Juliette left to return to Silo 18, he asked if she would come back to see him again. He lives, but whether audiences will see him again remains unknown as Juliette heads back home and the story is moving away from Jimmy's Silo 17.
Daniel (Ashley Zukerman)
New Character
The third season has two new characters confirmed to join the Silo cast. However, these characters will have no interaction with the residents of Silo 18. That is because the first season ended with a flashback scene before the nuclear disaster happened. The devastation took place 350 years ago, and this scene at the end of season 2 was a meeting between a politician and a reporter in a restaurant. Daniel is a "young and hungry congressman" (via Deadline). Graham Yost described the scene where the new characters appeared (via Time):
"One of the things I was looking forward to is going from the sound of fire in the airlock to rain over black. And having the audience just go ‘Sorry, what? Rain?’ There's no rain in the silo... It was a step forward... I wanted to establish that we're going to see how this whole thing started."
The scene had Daniel and Helen meeting at a bar, in what seemed to look like a date. Dan is a congressman, and Helen wants to know about a "dirty bomb" exploding in New Orleans. However, Daniel gives her no information and instead chooses to leave. If it plays out like the books, this storyline might unwind throughout most of the third season, breaking from Juliette and her story.
Helen (Jessica Henwick)
New Character
Helen is the second new character arriving in Silo season 3. In the final scene of the season 2 finale, Helen is meeting Daniel at a bar to ask him some questions. She wants to know about a "dirty bomb" that people heard was set off in New Orleans, mainly if it was a real bomb or if it was a fabricated terrorist act to help advance the war between the United States and Iran. It is clear she will look to break open the story, but Daniel won't answer that question. Yoast said that was exciting for him:
"We wanted something where the audience goes, ‘Oh sh-t! Oh sh-t’ and that was the Pez. It’s not a cliffhanger, but it is a leaning-forward story moment."
Helen is described as a "whip-smart reporter." Before Daniel leaves, he gives Helen a gift — a brown paper bag containing a Pez dispenser with a duck on it. Helen smiles, and the second season ends. This is the same Pez dispenser that was found in the silo hundreds of years later as a forbidden item. Helen and Daniel had something to do with the silos and this storyline and Silo season 3 should play that out.
