After Watching Pokémon Legends: Z-A's New Trailer, I'm Convinced I Know Who The Villains Will Be
More details about the upcoming Pokémon Legends Z-A have been revealed during the March 27 Nintendo Direct, and it has gotten me excited. While I am admittedly a little trepidatious about Legends Z-A, I am nevertheless extremely keen to see how it turns out and in what ways it innovates on the Pokémon formula. After all, with the new real-time battles and focus on a single-city location, there's a lot to be excited about.
However, its latest trailer, which was shown off during the recent March Nintendo Direct, gave us a little more information that piqued my interest, specifically when it comes to who the game's central antagonists may be. While the main villain hasn't been officially announced, this new trailer all but confirms it for me, as the evidence keeps piling up. If it ends up being true, which I'm all but certain it will, then Pokémon Legends Z-A could have an interesting plot on its hands.
Quasartico Inc. Is An Important Corporation In Legends: Z-A
It Is Spearheading The Redevelopment Plan
Quasartico Inc. is one of the major players in Pokémon Legends Z-A, as it is the company spearheading the urban redevelopment project in Lumiose City. It is about the only detail we have in regard to the game's main story - that and a handful of new and returning characters - which should definitely signify that it is an important one. Of course, we know very little about Quasartico Inc. and its overall intentions, but, at least on a purely surface level, its CEO, Jett, has nothing but positive ambitions for Lumiose City and its people.
However, with some believing that Quasartico Inc. has connections to X & Y's villain, the fact that we've still heard nothing about the game's primary antagonist, and what we saw in the latest Pokemon Legends Z-A trailer, I have come to the conclusion that this seemingly benevolent corporation actually has ulterior motives. Shocking, I know. It isn't just that Quasartico Inc. sounds like the name of a James Bond villainous organization, nor that Vinnie looks like he'd be a stand-in for a Jaws-esque henchman, but that all signs point to them and their leader having evil ulterior motives.
Having Quasartico Inc Be Villains Will Continue A Pokémon Trend
It Can't Be A Pokémon Game Without A Villainous Team
Of course, initially, Qusartico Inc. will come across as the benevolent company it is posing as. After all, Jett couldn't come out of the gate explaining her plans for world domination or ultimate control over all Pokémon, or whatever her true intentions are. However, after likely successfully harnessing the power of Legends Z-A's titular legendary - or at the very least pulling off its very evil plan - they'll turn on the player, forcing them to band together with the friends they've made along the way to free Lumiose City from its evil clutches. Or, at least, something like that.
The Legends series has already established having a seemingly helpful and kind character end up turning evil with Legends Arceus' amazing secret villain.
Quasartico Inc. being the main antagonist of Pokémon Legends Z-A would also be a continuation of a series trend. For starters, every Pokémon game needs its villainous team for fans to butt heads with. However, more importantly, the Legends series has already established having a seemingly helpful and kind character end up turning evil with Legends Arceus' amazing secret villain. Jett just has that look about her, a woman with nefarious intentions, not unlike the leader of Pokémon Sun and Moon's secretly evil Aether Foundation, Lusamine.
Will Quasartico Inc Be Like Team Rocket Or The Aether Foundation?
It Is More Likely To Be A Serious Villain
While many may prefer a return to a Team Rocket-style villainous organization, it seems unlikely that Game Freak will take Quasartico Inc. in that direction. I have a feeling that they'll be more akin to the aforementioned Aether Foundation, which serves as a force for good, treating sick Pokémon, but is led by the misguided Lusamine, whose dangerous obsession with Ultra Beasts sets her, and the Aether Foundation as a result, down a dangerous path. It isn't hard to see Quasartico's good intentions being used as a shield for more nefarious acts or being twisted into a force for evil.

I Hope Pokémon Legends Z-A Keeps The Most Important Feature From Arceus
Pokémon Legends Z-A has the potential to be truly amazing so long as it retains the best part of its predecessor, Pokémon Legends Arceus.
Perhaps Jett wants to use the mass alterations to Lumiose City to hide secret sites where they're unearthing unique Pokémon, or maybe Quasartico Inc. will discover something during the city's redevelopment that changes their ultimate plan. Whatever happens, one thing is for sure - at least in my mind: Quasartico Inc. is evil and Pokémon Legends Z-A's main villain. I wouldn't be surprised if there was another villain who distracts the player for much of Pokémon Legends Z-A, but I'd bet a lot of money that eventually, when the dust has settled, Quasartico Inc. will emerge as the true final boss.
